Hummer

Hummer Auto Glass & Windshield Replacement

Hummer LogoHummer is a brand from AM general that began selling civilian versions of the military M998 Humvee (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle).  General Motors purchased the brand name in 1998 and started selling three models, The orginal H1 and smaller versions H2 and H3.  With the economy collapse in 2008 GM discontinued the brand. When gas prices are high, these vehicles get criticized as wasteful due to poor gas mileage and large size.

Hummer Windshield Replacement

The Hummer brand only has 3 models. Windshield replacement on the smaller H2 and H3 are more in line with standard passenger vehicles. The original H1 is rare and replacement glass can be expensive and hard to find.

The H1 has a split windshield similar to a commercial truck. A OEM windshield can cost upwards of $1000 dollars for a replacement. However, the windshield is flat so a custom cut piece of laminated glass can be produced. Also, they are very rare so any replacement parts are hard to come by.

For the H2 and H3 from GM that is not the case. Aftermarket windshields are plentiful and easy to get. One challenge with the H2 is the vehicle’s size.  It take a highly skilled installer or sometimes two technicians to properly set the windshield. The H2 does require a to moulding and because if the vertical stance of the windshield, road noise can be a problem.

There are not many safety or technology features build into the windshields.

Hummer Windshield Replacement Options:

Windshield with Tint- It can be misleading. All windshields come with a slight “tint”. It almost looks clear but it actually has a slight green tint. If you hols a white piece of paper aginst the glass and look through, you can see the tint.

Windshield with Tint and shade- This windshield will have the green tint like the other windshield, but will also feature a dark blue shade across the top. Approximately 6″ inches. Some refer to this as an eyebrow.
