Austin Police Department has been issuing tickets for the use of cell phones and other electronic devices since the end of Jan. This includes riding a bicycle.

The City of Austin started posting new signs around town letting motorists know about the new law.

Most have heard that the fine can cost up to $500.

 

Here is a breakdown of the fines that could cost you up to $500

$220 – Pela “no contest” and pay before a court date, the fine will be $150 plus $70 in court costs.

$295 – Pela “no contest” and pay late $225 plus $70 in court fees.

$500 – Appear before a judge and found guilty.
